Second Southern Ireland Trip

Hi there, wow how long has it been since my last post? A good few months, for sure! For my comeback post I have photos from my second Southern Ireland trip. I was there at the end of March, again just for a few days. The weather wasn’t too good but I managed to grab a few decent shots. I hope you like ’em. As always click on the pics to enlarge…

Trim Castle

On the first day I took a drive down to County Meath to Trim Castle. It’s a Norman castle, built by Hugh de Lacy over a 30 year period. I took the tour which was a great way to spend a few hours learning the history and seeing the castle from the inside.

Near the site of the castle stands an old Bell Tower calledย The Yellow Steep;

I took a walk along the River Boyne and noticed this heron swimming and diving for food;

Ross Castle and The Rock at Cashel

The next day I took a long drive southwest to Killarney,ย County Kerry to see Ross Castle

I was really looking forward to this trip as the photos I’d seen of this castle looked amazing. Of course I was relying on the weather…sadly it had other plans. Still, it didn’t detract from the imposing building that awaited me.

It was a little busy so Iย took some long exposure shots to try to blur them out.

Even with grey clouds above, the surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful.

On the way back I stopped off at The Rock at Cashelย in County Tipperary. Again I had visions of it being lit up against a beautiful sky but the weather gods conspired against me. The only decent shot I took I had to make as a composite and change the sky for something more easy on the eye…

Howth and Glendalough

The last day saw me take a drive to Howth, an outer suburb of Dublin which forms part of Dublin Bay. Being a peninsula it kinda had its very own weather system. One minute but skies, the next…well you can see from the second shot ๐Ÿ™‚

St Mary’s

The church above had been built around with houses and bars. I only noticed it by chance as I was wandering up the steep hill. Had to stop and ask how to get to it, such was the higgledy-piggledy way in which the town had been built. But it was a beautiful building.

I was so struck with the serene countryside and lakes of Glendalough that I knew I had to go back and visit again. I took a more direct route this time rather than meandering through the Wicklow Mountains which gave me plenty of time to walk up to the Great Lake.

On the way round to the old village I spotted a cheeky little Robin…(wouldn’t be the same without a bird pic or two ๐Ÿ™‚ )

And to round the trip off, a long exposure shot of the Glendasan River. In the distance you can just about see the Round Tower.

I hope you have enjoyed the photos, sorry it took so long to post them up.

Please do leave me feedback, I’d love to know what you think of them.

Birds, horses and trees

Hi there, thanks for popping over to have a look at my photos. I hope you’re well and having a good week? This week I’ve been taking photos of birds, horses and trees. The weather has been cold but beautiful so I managed to get out for the first time in a while.

And so we’ll delve straight in. Remember, click on the photo to view a larger image, they look better that way ๐Ÿ™‚

Birds

As you’re well aware by now, I love the birds ๐Ÿ™‚ I took a walk along Silchester Wall a couple of weeks ago and chanced upon a friendly robin. He was happy enough to pose a moment whilst I snapped him on a fence and then on a headstone.

And with the cold weather comes the birds looking for a snack. This blue tit was on the feeder for a good few minutes. Most of the time they flit on and off very briefly, I think he must have been hungry!

Birds, horses and trees

Horses

I’d missed out on some amazing winter sunrises recently. I finally got my act together and took my camera in to work with me. Along the way I stopped off near Amner’s Farm and these are the results;

And last weekend I took a stroll over at Whitehill, near Kingsclere and saw these two horses…

Trees

And of course you know of my fondness for trees, the lungs of the earth ๐Ÿ™‚ย The first photo was taken on New Year’s Day up in Appley Bridge.

The next two were shot near Beech Hill in West Berkshire

And that brings to an end my post of birds, horses and trees. I hope you liked them. As always, you can order prints of these or any others on my website. Just drop me an email and let me know which ones.

Some local photos

Hi there, and a belated Happy New Year to you. I hope you had a fantastic festive break and 2017 is being kind to you. For my first post of the year I thought I’d share some local photos, taken in and around Burghfield Common.

Sadly there aren’t as many as I usually post up. The weather hasn’t really been too inspiring and I’ve also had a trapped nerve in my back. Not much fun to start the year but it’s on the mend now so all good ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, enough of my woes and on to the photos ๐Ÿ™‚

Webs and fog in Wokefield Common

Just before Christmas we had a couple of days of heavy fog. The droplets on the webs in the woods were really quite pretty. The fog through the trees was quite eerie.

Reflections and light shafts near the Burghfield Sailing Club

What started off as an icy morning soon thawed as the sun emerged. The shafts of light beaming through the trees were amazing.

A couple of revisions

And, as usual a couple of older shots. The first shot is of one of the lakes at Dinton Pastures at sunset. The second was taken during the summer along the River Kennet near Theale.

An imposter

Ok, so this wasn’t taken anywhere near Burghfield Common. I wanted to share the beautiful view from my sister’s in Appley Bridge, near Wigan. I took this on New Year’s Eve 2016, and that kinda brings this post to a natural conclusion ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d just like to thank you for your continued support throughout last year. I love reading your comments so please keep leaving them.

As usual, photos look better if you click on them and view them in larger format. They would also look infinitely better on canvas or aluminium so don’t be shy and buy a print or two ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks,

Mart

Last Post of the Year

Hiya folks, I trust you’re all well and geared up for the festive period? This will be the last post of the year, unless we have some amazing weather between now and 2017! As usual it’s a miss-mash of photos new and old. And as usual you can enlarge them by clicking on the photo. Comments, thoughts etc are always welcome so please don’t forget to fill up a comment box ๐Ÿ™‚

Birds

To start, a few bird pics taken in my back garden. We get loads of them flocking to the feeder which is great, I love to sit and watch them.

So the top 2 pics show a nuthatch and a couple of blue tits. The 3rd pic is a lesser spotted woodpecker. Actually, as I sit typing this, he’s back again making small work of the suet block.

Wokefield Common

Last Wednesday I was charged with taking the mutt for her morning walk. I decided to visit Wokefield Common, I hadn’t been there for a while what with the dark evenings and all. Stupidly I didn’t take my Canon. Really annoying as the fog was rising and the light shafts were incredible. At least I had my trusty iPhone…

It really was a shame I wasn’t prepared for the scene that awaited me here, but these aren’t too bad for a phone camera I guess.

Sunset at Wasing Park

Those of you who know me will know how much I love sunsets. And Wasing Park.ย After the joys of the light shafts in the morning, I took myself off to Aldermaston in the evening. I only managed a couple of shots but it was still worth it, I thought.

And, to Finish…

A few random shots; ย The top one is a re-edit of a shot I took last September when I was in Southern Ireland. The fisherman set up and started beach casting so I fired off a couple of shots of him underneath the gathering clouds.

The shot above was taken looking out at the Burghfield Sailing Club lake.

These 2 above were taken on a very foggy morning along the River Kennet as I walked Maya.

Well, that’s it for this year. I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at my photos and I haven’t bored you too much with my meanderings.

As always, photos can be bought for prints, canvasses, aluminium or even key rings if you so wish! Just let me know which photos you like and we can work something out ๐Ÿ™‚

All that is left for me to say is that I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year and I look forward to sharing more photos with you in 2017

Nine more photos

Hi there, remember me? ๐Ÿ™‚ I know it’s been a few weeks since I last posted some photos, I hope you’re well? ย This week I’ve nine more photos to post up, which I hope you like.

As usual from my nine more photos there are some new and some old. Starting with the old..

Hose Hill Lake

I took these almost a year ago to the day down at Hose Hill Lake, Burghfield. It was a beautiful day, the air was so crisp and clear, perfect for taking a photo or two. Oddly I passed over these pictures back then (sometimes I take so many that this is easily done ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Nine more photos

Barkham

Taken earlier this year – January to be precise – in Barkham, on the way to Wokingham. It was a wonderfully cold morning back then. I managed to grab a shot just as the sun was peeking over the hill. Perfect timing!

Nine more photos

Castle Combe

I still rate this place as one of the quaintest places I have ever visited. It’s a tine little village nestled somewhere in Wiltshire. The sky is editedย to give a more interesting look, I want to go back on a better day…

Another Moon

No introduction needed here….

Summer

…seems like a distant memory now. We did have a good one, didn’t we? I took this on my way back from Reading, along the River Kennet. It was a beautiful day and it was the first time I’d followed the river into town.

Nine more photos

Frosty Grazeley

And these last few were taken last week, about 8am as I was driving in to work. It was one of those clear and frosty mornings that I love so much.

And there we have it, nine more photos to add to the collection! I hope you liked them. I’m hoping that the weather gets a little more interesting in the coming week as this white cloud is a bit dull!

Until next time, take care,

Mart

Another week of randoms

Hi once more, I hope you’re well? Thanks for visiting, this time is another week of randoms! Typically I’ll have a week of getting out and snapping some shots and posting from 1 or 2 sources. Recently though it’s not been the case and I have to trawl through my backlog. This means one or two photos from various other sources, which is what we have today ๐Ÿ™‚

Holiday Memories

To begin, a few photos taken whilst on break, and below is a shot I recently edited of Portrane Beach.

And a couple of shots left over from my summer break in Dale, Pembrokeshire. It really was a beautiful place ๐Ÿ™‚

The top shot was taken along the front at Dale. Middle shot was from Marloes Beach and the bottom shot at Dale West.

Autumn in Burghfield

As titled really, these were taken a few weeks back when it really felt like Autumn was here. It was bright, crisp and fresh that day; I can still remember the sights and smells. Since then it’s just been a little on the wet and dull side…give me those blue skies again!

Autumn Elsewhere!

A little further afield, although not too far! The top shot, taken on my phone was taken near Midgham and the bottom shot from the Discovery Centre in Newbury.

Wokingham

Ah yes, the town where I work! I took these 3 on my iPhone last Friday and edited them using a couple of apps on the phone. This takes me back a bit…

And..to close…

A couple of nature shots, some beautiful leaves, the ‘almost’ supermoon and a sunset at Ufton Nervet.

I took the moon shot at 17:21 last Sunday, a day before the true supermoon. I’m glad I got to take this shot because the Monday was very cloudy!
